BTP was my introduction to Jemma’s work, and MAN am I happy I read it! I’m planning to read all her other books asap! BTP is the third installment in the Fantasy Flatmates series, so I plan to read those (plus an upcoming co-written book!) in the next couple months.
Before getting into the nitty-gritty, there’s a MAP included in BTP! I’m a sucker for a map for fantasy/fictional places. It really helps me imagine the world as it’s being built for me in the story. I will say, though, that Dima mentions he could draw a map to all the buried bodies he knows about in ch1, and I’d really enjoy that map, please and thank you!
BTP is dual POV (a real trend for me lately, but I’m definitely not complaining!) between Dima and Casey. Dima is our resident telepathic, telekinetic, hotel mogul vampire! He’s also an esteemed, awarded quilter (well, his butt won the award, but still!!). Casey is Dima’s human love interest. He’s pansexual, hot-headed, has OCD, is a former wingball player, now familiar to Killian, and is into Dima. Killian is Dima’s blood brother and arch nemesis (he’s also a telepathic vampire).
Some of my favorite moments throughout the book include:
- Casey comparing Dima to the Phantom of the Opera
- Dima telekinetically cheating at mini golf
- Casey trying to decide which of Dima’s smile is his favorite
- Casey giving Dima his locker key, and Dima later giving Casey his locket
- Casey the Hydrated (iykyk)
I will warn you that if you have a stone façade like me, chapter 29 and 30 had me absolutely sobbing, utterly broke me, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
I absolutely love these two men and I hope we are able to clean more of their love story at some point in the future. BTP is one of my top books of 2024; even though it’s only March I can already make this declaration wholeheartedly.
